So my wife and I are having a boy…

After having three girls, we thought it would never happen. I even came to terms with all girls because I never liked sports and all my best friends were girls growing up so I figured it was fitting that I raised girls. I was still a little disappointed in not having a cute little boy running around the house.

Then we get the news that it’s a boy (due in June), and at first I was so excited to finally have one after I gave up thinking it was ever going to happen. Then a few days later, I came to the realization that no one is going to teach this kid how to be a boy. He won’t know sports. He won’t ever go hunting or fishing. He will probably inherit my dislike for even getting dirty. My kid is going to be the biggest pansy in this meat-and-potato-fed, farm-bred state. Maybe we shouldn’t have left Seattle. At least there my contributions would have been worth something. How is knowing the difference between The Dear And Departed and Dear And The Headlights going to help him in a town of Nickelback fans? Will anyone truly appreciate the importance he places on November and May sweeps?

Gosh, if this town gets my kid to become a BSU fan, I’m afraid I’ll lose him forever.
